It was embarrassing, really. Same thing with a lot of things involved in the Charismatic churches, such as being “slain in the spirit” or speaking in tongues. Maybe I’m just not as suggestible as some people, but this stuff always seemed bizarre and unnatural to me (not to be confused with supernatural), even as a kid raised and deeply rooted in such churches. At first I thought there was something wrong with me, but I rather quickly concluded that these people were just crazy.

Christians are so emotionally repressed that this is the only sanctioned outlet for them, which is why the charismatic movement has been booming for decades now. Repression will either be vented safely, as in this instance, or it will be vented murderously (Andrea Yates, etc.) Either way, emotions HAVE to come out.
