There as been all kind of religion community, etchnic community and yet it doesn’t help and will not help the current world crisis as long as we are divided and afraid of the unknow, it got to start somewhere.

There is a lot of free thinkers but they are not all united as the relgious group, most of them are divided, it is why we are weak at the moment if we can find a way to bind together and let our differences asside to work on the real issue: useless war, over population, pollution (we do have alternate technologie) coorporation taking over our rights, etc… we should start a strong community of free thinkers and really start creating plans and execute them because if we just chat about it it will just be to late…I myself think of creating a world wide coalition of freethinkers and more good we do arround more people will join us, more people will wake up and one day… we might be able to succeed this biggest challenge ever offered to mankind.

Let’s challenge our problems and work together we can’t always agree but we can always try our best !!!

I must agree that it would appear the root of much evil in the world seems to be the mis-interpretation of religious belief. Zealots of any kind will always be dangerous. As with anything, I suppose the conflict comes from literal interpretation/implementation of dogma.

Projecting the root of all evil onto interpretation is a falls reasoning. Religion has nothing to do with evil, it is a mere vessel for the incapacity of mankind to overcome his boxed thinking. The world will need more than reasoning to be saved. Replacing GOD with reason won’t help, reason can also lead to destructive actions (especially in human affairs). Example: Darwinism, in the minds of evil men in can lead to the reasoning of killing many people (I do believe in Darwinism).

What is really needed is an expansion and understanding of consciousness. So that mankind can evolve away from the action reaction state of mind in which most people live there lives.

Because according to Quantum physics, the World is exactly as the World chooses to be.

Fear of death is what has been taught by religion. Fear of death is not a Love for Life and does not bring to us the Wisdom to support it.

I would add that atheism (absence of religious/super natural beliefs) does not itself create the kind of philosophy one needs to become a force for positive change in the world.

While reason and logic tend to be used against religion, it has often happened that atheists have forgotten their use by succumbing to non-religious yet negative outlooks on life like authoritarianism, fascism, etc.

What we need to do to ensure our positive contribution to society is to establish a premise of love and harmony (as is written in your agnostic atheist wager), through which we embrace cold, hard reason and rationality.

I suppose what I’m trying to say is that an absence of religious beliefs by itself is not enough to ensure we become a positive force in the world.
