Thinking Ape, you’re dead on – this is the future of American Christianity, and we will all suffer. Over the past couple of years, a number of books have come out – Michelle Goldberg’s Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism comes to mind – that document their process of creating a parallel reality, complete with it’s own “history” and it’s own “science”. It’s like some sort of Bizarro world – and they’re attempting to impose it upon the rest of America, and, beyond that, our global civilization.

This is what I meant by what I said a couple of weeks ago in a comment on another thread – these people have convinced me that humanity is a terminal species, that we cannot solve our problems and that we probably haven’t got much time left.

Thanks for your honest words. It’s really tough to confront and admit the self-doubt, even self-loathing, that evangelical and fundamentalist Christianity can inspire. In spite of all the talk about God’s grace, one can never be sure whether one really embodies and exemplifies that grace, or has failed (again) and missed an(other) opportunity to witness, to bring a soul home to Christ, and so on. When one examines fundie/evangelical God-speak, it becomes clear that “grace” is actually a code-word for “guilt.”

Nope… no magic pills. And, I WISH it would “inevitably self destruct”… but, I have to wonder if that is also wishful thinking. These people, excuse me – sheeple, seem to have no trouble thriving and multiplying.

The really sad thing is, I could easily see my mother hopping on this crusade… or picking a highway closer to home instead. loletinf…

Religion based on powerful emotional experiences, and manipulation. I speak for myself, only myself, that it looked so good at first. The “born again” thing, becoming a new person, wow how amazing is that? THe whole Spirit thing, powerfully causing changes in my life, with emotional manifestations as proof.

Then reality set in. I was still a bad person. I still had every fault I had before my emotional “born again” experience. I was left feeling like completel trash all the time. How I couldn’t eve measure up to the standards of the church, how I could never really be what I kept saying God made me. How much of a hypocrite I was, including all of the leadership.

How I waisted years of my life believing that God would change me, magically, it’s all a bunch of bullshit. Emotions are powerful, but they are lies. Emotions breed Denial, lying, shame, guilt, ugh.. Mix powerful emotions with dogma.. oh no… and create an abusive system. A dramatically abusive system. A system that will inevitably self-destruct.

Like it or not, this is the future of American Christianity. It is a Christianity without theology nor tradition. It is a Christianity without God nor Yeshua. It is the epitome of the paradoxical anarcho-fascist Spirit-driven religion that 1800 years of Christianity fought against. Reasonable Christians and all non-Christians will suffer at the hands of these nutcases, just as the Anabaptists of the 16th century were tortured and killed at the hands of Roman Catholics, Lutherans, and Calvinists.

I used to drive a big truck up and down I-35 because we had a terminal in Laredo. The billboards were hard to bear, but this is just sick and wrong headed. These people (excuse me, sheeple) are just so deluded…sickening.
